Introduction to Custom Splinting
This 6-hour course is intended for occupational therapists interested in expanding their foundational custom hand splinting knowledge.
The course will cover:
-principles of hand splinting
-anatomy and clinical indications for hand splints of specific conditions
-fabrication techniques
-guidelines for wear/care
-material selection and properties
During this hands-on course, the participants will fabricate a boutonniere splint, a hand based resting splint, a hand based gutter splint and a forearm based thumb spica. This course includes all splinting materials and splint pattern handouts.
This course builds upon concepts introduced in university-level splinting classes.
